David R. Shanks is Professor of Psychology and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Brain Sciences at University College London. He has published many articles and book chapters on learning, memory, and decision making and is coauthor of Straight Choices: The Psychology of Decision Making (3rd edition, 2022) and Open Minded: Searching for Truth about the Unconscious Mind (2023). A longstanding focus of his research has been on the distinction between explicit and implicit mental processes which he has investigated using methods from experimental cognitive psychology, computational modelling, and neuropsychology.
