Welcome to Leipzig

Wilhelm Wundt Exhibition

Bibliotheca Albertina | Beethovenstr. 6 | Leipzig
Skyline Leipzig

Located at the heart of Europe, Leipzig has always been an ideal meeting place. For neuropsychologists and neuroscientists, Leipzig is especially significant as the birthplace of experimental psychology. Around 150 years ago, Wilhelm Wundt founded the world’s first institute for experimental psychology at the University of Leipzig, shaping the way we think about the brain today. His legacy lives on: the university still hosts leading institutes for psychology and cognitive neurology, and two renowned Max Planck Institutes — the MPI for Cognitive and Brain Sciences and the MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology — continue to push the frontiers of research. Two of our keynote speakers will highlight this innovative scientific work.

Leipzig is also famous for its rich cultural heritage. The St. Thomas Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach worked, and the Gewandhaus concert hall, home to great conductors like Mendelssohn and Masur, still inspire visitors today. Kurt Masur also played a key role in the peaceful revolution of 1989, when more than 100,000 people gathered to stand up for freedom and democracy, paving the way for the reunification of Germany and Europe. You can feel this spirit when visiting the Nicolai church, where the Monday prayers started.
